9 Great Articles About Paraeducator Salaries

👋🏽 Hi friends!

I hope you all are doing well. Today I want to talk about something important to me and my community. Did you know that 75% of paraeducators are unsatisfied with their salary? Just last week, paraeducators rallied for livable wages. I know it’s sad that we’re still fighting for this, but we won't give up! That’s why I’m raising awareness about the issue.

Did you know that a single parent cannot make it on a paraeducator's salary alone? That’s right, you need to have a partner to support the living expenses or you’ll have to work multiple jobs to make ends meet.

This is just one of the many issues that paraeducators face. But we're a strong community, and we'll continue to fight for the recognition and respect that we deserve!

What is the average paraeducator's salary?

As a paraeducator, you may know that working with students can be incredibly rewarding and you may be wondering what the average salary is for someone in your position. Unfortunately, the answer is not as encouraging as you might hope. You might not know that the average paraeducator salary is quite low.  Many paras make less than $30,000 a year.

Paraeducators play a vital role in our education system, working alongside teachers to provide support for students. They often have a deep knowledge of the subject matter they're teaching, and they're able to provide one-on-one attention to students who need it.

However, despite the important role they play, paraeducators are still being paid relatively little. The average paraeducator salary is just $23,000 a year and there are several reasons why this is the case.

Why is the paraeducator's salary so little?

There are a few reasons.

First, the job market for educators is incredibly competitive and saturated with people who are willing to do the job for little pay.

More people want to be educators than there are jobs available. This means that employers can afford to be picky and pay very little, knowing that there will always be someone else who is willing to take the job. This means that para pros often have to take jobs that don't pay very well.

Another reason why the average paraeducator salary is low is the lack of respect for the profession.

We know that the job of a para educator is often undervalued and that many people see them as nothing more than babysitters or glorified classroom assistants. However, this is not an accurate portrayal of the role! Para educators are actually very important to the education process. Many people don't realize how important para pros are to the education process. As a result, they are not seen as being worth very much in the grand scheme of things. However, we believe that paraeducators are actually very valuable and important members of the education team! But without para pros, many students would not be able to succeed in school.

Third, many paraeducators work in schools that are underfunded or work in low-income school districts, where budgets are tight.

This means that they don't have the same resources as other educators. This can make it difficult to do their job well.

Lastly, the majority of paraeducators are women, and women overall get paid less than men.
